Board Governance Practices for Long Term Value Creation

The Challenge

The pace of change and uncertainty has never been greater. Companies and Corporate Boards contexts are characterized by high levels of dynamism, complexity and uncertainty. Corporate Boards have a responsibility to steward their companies for the long term. But are Boards Really Long-Term?

Academic Research

We are conducting academic research on Boards Governance of Disruptors for Long Term Value Creation. We are contrasting disruptions as Covid, Geo-Issues as War, Sustainability incl Climate Change and Artificial Intelligence. How are the boards handling short- and long-term disruptors and what practices makes boards prepare for long term value creation, including a special focus on chairs.

Survey

We have a survey we welcome you to join, and please help share. The survey explore boards preparedness, actions and contribution to corporate renewal. The survey will take approximately 15 min, all data is held confidential. At the end of the survey participants get an opportunity to opt in to receive a summary report from the research, and get a link to two articles on board practices for Corporate Renewal and Long Term Value Creation.

The research is conducted by KTH Royal Institute of Technology Professor Mats Magnusson and PhD Doctorand & Board Member Henrik Forzelius, together with INSEAD Professor Stanislav Shekshnia and affiliated researcher, Chair Digoshen and Boards Impact Forum (the Nordic Chapter of Climate Governance Initiative in Collaboration with World Economic Forum), professional NED Lisleotte Engstam.

Research Outline

We are in addition to the survey conducting literature research, board member and expert interviews, board member workshops (as this one held with Boards Impact Forum members), and will summarize the findings in an academic paper to be published as a chapter in a forthcoming book on Corporate Governance in a Turbulent Era, edited by Professor Jonas Gabrielsson and PhD Wafa Khlif.

Contribute to the research

We welcome you to join the survey mentioned above. Should you have contributions or interest in joining an interview or board member workshop, welcome to indicate your interest here to Concierge (at) digoshen.co

Forthcoming Book

An academic paper summarising the research insights will be added as a chapter to a forthcoming book on Corporate Governance in a Turbulent Era

The forthcoming book aims to provide a novel examination of ownership and shareholder control, boards and monitoring, incentive and bonus systems, company law and other kinds of regulation in a turbulent corporate landscape.
