Digital Evolution, Meaning, and Leadership with Katharina Mosheim

Introduction

In our latest episode of the Digoshen Exploring Leaders podcast, we sit down with Katharina Mosheim, an experienced board member, transformation leader, and entrepreneur, to explore the intersections of digital transformation, leadership, and personal meaning. With a career that spans telecom, consulting, and technology-driven business reinvention, Katharina’s journey is a testament to curiosity, resilience, and the power of strategic foresight.

A Journey Rooted in Curiosity and Change

Katharina’s story begins in Austria, where her early fascination with technology was sparked by her father, an electrician, who introduced her to the mechanics of circuits and innovation. This foundation led her to a global career, first in telecoms with Siemens Mobile, then in consulting with Capgemini, and later driving major transformation initiatives at Sony Ericsson and Telia.

Her work has always centered around change—mergers, demergers, digitalization, and the advent of new technologies like 5G. But beyond the technical aspects, she emphasizes that transformation is fundamentally about people:

“It’s not just about the technology; it’s about how it impacts people, businesses, and society.

The Influence of Viktor Frankl: Meaning in Transformation

A particularly striking aspect of Katharina’s leadership philosophy is her connection to Viktor Frankl’s concept of meaning. Inspired by Man’s Search for Meaning since her teenage years, she applies Frankl’s perspective to both business and leadership. “If people in an organization have a clear mission—a North Star—transformation becomes not just a strategy but a shared journey,” she explains.

In times of uncertainty, Katharina believes leaders must help teams find meaning in change.

We’re facing massive transformations, but if people understand the ‘why,’ they’re more engaged and adaptable.”

Building Trust and Coaching Through Change

Trust is a critical element of effective leadership, and Katharina has developed a keen sense of how to build it in different settings—whether as a consultant stepping into a new company or as a board member navigating high-stakes decisions. She believes in deep listening, asking the right questions, and engaging in informal conversations that reveal what truly matters to people.

She also highlights the role of coaching in leadership:

Some of my most rewarding moments have been helping colleagues shift their perspective, find their motivation, and ultimately transform their own careers.

From Digital to Musical Transformation

Beyond her board roles and consulting work, Katharina is also co-leading the reinvention of a piano business, Alpha Pianos. Alongside her husband and friends, she purchased a struggling piano company in Austria and is transforming it with cutting-edge technology—introducing electronic pianos that allow musicians to slide on the keys for new expressions. Designed in collaboration with Porsche, the initiative blends hardware, software, and creative artistry.

For Katharina, music is more than a hobby—it’s a gateway to creativity and innovation.

Playing the piano helps me open my mind. It’s about feeling, connecting, and thinking differently—just like leading transformation.”

The Future of Leadership in Digital Transformation

As companies face the challenges of AI integration, workforce shifts, and digital disruption, Katharina emphasizes the need for proactive leadership.

“Too many organizations approach transformation from a static perspective. We need to continuously scan the horizon, anticipate change, and build adaptable strategies.”

She encourages leaders to foster curiosity within their teams, create a culture of exploration, and ensure that digital transformation is a collective effort rather than a siloed initiative.

Final Thoughts: Inspiration for Leaders and Board Members

Katharina’s journey offers valuable lessons for leaders navigating transformation:

  • Stay curious—Understanding technology and its implications is essential for effective leadership.
  • Find meaning—A clear mission energizes teams and drives transformation.
  • Build trust—Engage in real conversations and listen deeply.
  • Embrace continuous learning—“The more you know, the more you realize how much there is to learn.”

As she reflects on her career, she reminds us that transformation—whether digital, personal, or organizational—is a continuous process. And in an era of uncertainty, meaning and adaptability will be the keys to success.
